Founder Profile
Robert Huang was born in 1959, Taiwan. He has a bachelor’s degree at Tung Hai University, a master degree at TsingHua University, and also a P.h.d candidate at TsingHua. He built his architectural design skills and painting techniques during college. After college, Robert and three senior architecture graduates started a “Utopia” development case, which is a commercial rebuild of a torn neighborhood. This was the first community rebuild example in Taiwan. His passion in music led into his position as the director of the Classical Orchestra in Taichung, which has educated many young teenage musicians. In order to pursue the unique rose in Saint Exupery's The Little Prince, he founded a rose themed tea house “Rose House,” and the tea house later flourished into a chain corporation.
Robert’s early paintings are all Rose themed, and this theme is well received among the art circle. In 2003, his painting was selected as a visa credit card cover, and this is the first honor amongst all Chinese artists. He also participated in designing the “ Prince William and Kate’ commemorative wedding” porcelain collection for Aynsley. In 2012, Robert started to study aesthetics at TsingHua, and his creations moved from the rose theme into modernist abstraction. His thirty year career as a painter was influenced greatly by Paul Cezanne, Henri Matisse, William Kooning, Umehara Ryuzaburo, and Chi-Chung Liao. Hence, Robert’s art is both chauvinistic and impressionistic. His works consist of four major subjects: Portraits, Rose themed paintings, Landscape, and abstraction; the first three belong to realism and the last belongs to abstraction. The development of the four subjects indicate Robert’s aesthetic direction of his art: from poetism moving into art creations, and from art creations moving into abstract ideas.
Robert is a unique artist in that he has more than one artistic identity. He is a philosopher, a poet, a director of an orchestra, and yet he is also an artist and an entrepreneur. These seemingly conflicting identities and life experiences all became his inspirations and soul in his artworks. He uses his art to convey his love of being an artist. His persistence in art led to a unique aesthetic style in his paintings. His poetic conceptions are like an open rose garden. He is like the little prince in Saint Exupery’s novel, travelling alone in his artistic journey. Now, He would like to share his dreams with others and encourage others to pursue their own.
